Facebook Television Launching in June

Ever since Facebook Live launched in August 2015, Facebook has been moving as fast as possible towards mainstream television. And now that day is almost here. Starting in June, Facebook is reportedly planning to launch around two dozen original “TV-like” programs.

Digital streaming television is a massive growing area, dominated by Netflix, YouTube, Amazon and Hulu. Facebook will start with two distinct types of shows: a few longer, big-budget shows (akin to “House of Cards” or “Scandal,” apparently) that viewers would enjoy watching at home on their television screens (using Faceook’s AppleTV or Amazon Fire app) + shorter shows around 5-10 minutes that would refresh every 24 hours. This Week’s Top 3 Articles

1. Why Instagram Is Becoming Facebook’s Next Facebook – via NYTimes.com

Instagram has grown steadily since the visual mobile app first launched. But, after being acquired by Facebook five years ago and consistently improving the app’s features (and improving upon the, uhm, Snapchat-inspired features!), Instagram user growth is exploding. The company just celebrated the 700M milestone, and the shortest time to reach the next 100M users. Following Facebook’s playbook, Instagram is changing and improving daily and the strategy is paying off.

2. The Psychology of Marketing: 18 Ways to Use Social Proof to Boost Your Results – via Bufferapp.com

Social proof provides validation from people you know and even those you don’t. For example, “if others in my circle find this interesting, I probably should, too.” Or, “if online reviews for this product are positive it must be good.” Leveraging that validation is a very good way to improve your marketing results. There are many easy ways to do this… read on to find out how in this excellent piece by one of my fave content creators, Buffer!

3. 9 Top Facebook Groups for Entrepreneurs and Freelancers via MakeUseof.com

As a freelancer or entrepreneur, finding your tribe of like-minded people can make all the difference to your success – whether you join for collaboration, advice, referrals or other. Take a look at the groups listed here. You might find your tribe!

By the way, in his opening of Facebook’s Q1 Earnings Call last week, CEO Mark Zuckerberg began to drive home the importance of groups. And, he posted on his profile, “More than 100 million people on Facebook are members of “very meaningful” groups — like parent support groups or illness support groups that are an important part of their lives. My hope is to help more than 1 billion people join very meaningful groups to strengthen our social fabric over the next few years.” (Bold added by me… don’t be surprised if Facebook tries — again — to break off Groups into a separate app. Just saying! I do believe there are huge plans yet to be rolled out for optimizing Facebook Groups! Stay tuned. You may already have the new ability to link your Page to a Group!)

Okay, my friend, that’s a wrap for this issue of The Social Scoop. I hope you are having an amazing week ahead and I look forward to connecting again very soon.

Cheers,
Mari
