How Do I Make Money On Facebook? – Is The Wrong Question

make_money_facebookThis is the question I get asked most often: How do I make money on Facebook. I can tell a lot right away about someone who asks me that question. Usually it tells me (a) they don’t have much online business experience, (b) they’re not a natural people person and (c) they don’t understand social media.

Someone focused solely on searching where to find money on Facebook might be more likely to place links and large signature blocks on every wall post. (A major pet peeve of both myself and Michael Port, among others!)

The money-focused people are probably the ones sending bulk emails announcing their latest “get-rich” venture. (Facebook limits multiple-recipient emails to twenty friends at a time; many spammers have cottoned on to this feature). And, these people are most likely the ones adding friends with absolutely no discernment, e.g. going for quantity vs. quality. They’re in a mode of gathering “friends” and pushing their wares.

See, Facebook is not a source of money per se – it’s a medium through which you can reach out to let others know about your business. In fact, Facebook is one of many, many mediums you need to incorporate in concert with an overall marketing strategy. And you need to be patient – business growth doesn’t happen overnight.

However, depending on how solid your business model and systems are, and if you know some of the most effective ways to use Facebook in conjunction with other media, you could certainly speed up the process of generating significantly more revenue.

mari_kevin_cert One of the most effective business models I’ve come across is the Big Ticket system developed by Kevin Nations, a member of my success team and my personal mentor. Kevin’s system can be implemented by most professionals and augmented by capitalizing on Facebook as a marketing channel.

I’ll be interviewing Kevin this Tuesday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific / 2:00 p.m. Eastern. Kevin has agreed to share details of his Step-by-Step Ultimate Profit system with my listeners.

I’m proud to let you know I’ve made significantly more PROFITS with Kevin’s system than any other mentor, seminar, program or system. (And that’s saying something ‘cuz I’m a total seminar junkie and constant learner!) Reserve your place on this powerful conference call coming up on July 15 directly here.

marismith_kevinnations_vaultPlus, go to the Facebook Event for this call and help generate BUZZ for this event at the same time as creating valuable visibility for yourself!! Find out how with the video I loaded for you on the Facebook Event page.

Meantime, regards “making money on Facebook,” let me suggest more effective questions to ask:

“How do I find a proven profit model that taps into the power of Facebook?”

“Who is a qualified mentor that can help me implement that model?”

“Were do I find a successful business mentor to help me increase my revenue using social media?”

Cheers,

Money is to be found where people will pay for a service you offer. Facebook is one medium out of millions where you can promote your business service in front of people. Would you ring people from the telephone directory and tell them about your service? I prefer to market to ready buyers. I’m not seeing buyers on Facebook. I’m seeing time wasters.

    You are so right Mari;

With social marketing its all about building trust when it comes to promoting business of Facebook. You cant do that by jamming ads in peoples faces, you do it by helping others.

I’m so glad I’m getting a chance to catch up with you. Your Twitter in response to Rick Butts’ troubles with some abuser lead me to this article and has enlightened me to the purpose of these several venues I find myself using so much, yet haven’t had the time to really master.

I’m adjusting my own attitudes about how I need to model my business as I may have been guilty of borderline spamminess in the past. You’re a great teacher,, and i intend to keep following you as I mold my own business models to put these social media tools to their intended use.

    Thanks, Mari

Wow, what a great post! I really enjoyed your free tips on using facebook. Thanks for giving such great info. I always try not to have a signature below my posts and just have my name and website and tagline. If people are interested they will check out my website.

Also, I was recently launching a new product and though about sending a message through facebook, but then did not want to be another spammer. Do you have any suggestions on how to nicely promote your product on Facebook, without spamming?

Great article, Mari. but well, as all the other articles I’ve seen here before 😉

I have only one comment- you were maybe too strong in stating
“Is The Wrong Question” about “making money on facebook”, since today many people, the “end users for web 2.0” :), are search exactly how to make money FOR THEM on Social Networking!

I am testing myself for 3 weeks urTurn.com’s plugin for Facebook, I consider this as a great change of how the Ads work on the Web. the era of Web 2.0 ads, which are probably Web 2.0 LOGS, is coming?

just in the case… my article is
“UrTurn pays for YOUR social networking activity- it’s finally Web Ads 2.0? or already Web LOGS 2.0?” http://tinyurl.com/3sgq3g

Oh, so true, Mari. Just last week I replied to one of those ‘group’ e-mails (thinking I was only speaking to the sender who I’d been chatting with off and on – FB oops!) commending her for her obvious enthusiam and initiative but pointing out that she was actually spamming and very likely alientating way more than she was attracting – and that most would just unfriend and say not a word.

Well, long made short, it prompted a wee bit of a response firestorm with people chiming in their agreement. Funny thing is this oops had a silver lining because at the end of the day I was ‘friended’ by 4 of those firestorm folks from the original group recipient list.

What do you think it is that turns otherwise lovely people into spam-senders?

Have you ever checked out Robert Middleton’s take on relationship marketing?
